Soderholm Family Aquatic Center, Madison, WI LCM (50 meters) Meet Central Psych Sheet Live Stream Day 1 RecapAfter the teenagers and high school aged kids highlighted night one in Madison, the Wisconsin Badgers lit it up on night two in their home pool.
Highlighting the night on the girls side was Maggie Wanezek who posted a lifetime best 59.14 in the 100 backstroke to earn the win by over two seconds. Wanezek entered the meet with a lifetime best of a 59.85 that she swam at last summer’s US Olympic Trials for an 11th place finish. Her season best this summer was a 1:00.37 that she swam for 14th at US Summer Nationals.
Based on her time tonight, Wanezek would have finished 6th at US Summer Nationals, just below fellow Wisconsin Badger Phoebe Bacon who swam a 58.80 at US Summer Nationals. The 19 year old is now out of “age group” swimming but was one of the top 100 backstrokers throughout her club career. She stands at #19 all-time in the 10 and under age group, #2 in the 11-12 age group, #14 in the 13-14 age group, #11 in the 15-16 age group, and #18 in the 17-18 age group.
Joining Maggie Wanezek with a win was older sister Abby Wanezek who enters her senior year this fall at Wisconsin. Abby swam to a 55.27 in the girls 100 freestyle, a best time by 0.09. Abby swam a 55.79 for 34th in the event at last month’s US Summer Nationals. Her time tonight would have moved her up to a 26th place finish.
Earning a win from the Badgers on the boys side was Michael Long who touched in a 55.36 in the 100 backstroke. Long was faster in prelims with a 55.02 which was faster than he was at US Summer Nationals when he swam a 55.25 for 21st. His best time in the event is a 54.77 from May.
Last night, Cal commit Max Goettsch swam to a lifetime best in the boys 200 freestyle and continued his momentum tonight posting a lifetime best 50.06 in the 100 freestyle. His previous best was a 50.77 that he swam just two weeks ago at Sectionals in Minneapolis. His best time coming into this summer was a 51.46.
18 year old Eli Rolfsen dropped over eight seconds in the boys 400 IM, earning the win in a 4:23.39. Rolfsen is committed to Miami-OH and will arrive this fall. His best time entering the meet was a 4:31.64 that he swam in March. He swam a 4:38.95 in the event at last summer’s Futures meet so he has seen huge progress over the last year.
Riley Anderson touched in a 27.09 in the 50 butterfly. The Duke commit swam a 27.21 for 15th at last month’s US Summer Nationals. Touching behind Anderson was Wisconsin Badger Hailey Tierney who swam a 27.39.
Rising sophomore at Youngstown State Jacob Gramer earned the win in the 50 fly in a 24.24. Gramer had success in the SCY 100 fly this past season with Youngstown State, swimming to a lifetime best 47.13 to finish 2nd in the event at the Horizon League Championships.
Minnesota Gopher Kathryn McCarthy swam to a win in the girls 400 IM in a 4:49.08, finishing ahead of college teammate Grace Drabot who swam a 4:53.36.
