Kansas basketball coach Bill Self reportedly was in the hospital on Thursday to undergo a procedure, according to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello.
According to the university, Borzello said, Self had “some concerning symptoms” that required him to go to the hospital. He then had a pair of stents put in and, according to Borzello, “is expected to make a full recovery.”

In 2023, he missed the Big 12 Tournament after undergoing what was initially deemed a procedure to clear blocked arteries, but later returned for the NCAA Tournament. He revealed in May 2023 that he had had an aortic valve replacement.
Self, one of the greatest coaches in college basketball history, has been on the Kansas sideline since replacing Roy Williams in 2003, going 609-148 in that timespan and leading the Jayhawks to a pair of national championship wins in 2008 and 2022. The Jayhawks have also made 4 appearances in the Final Four during his tenure. On Nov. 12, he won his 591st game, passing Phog Allen as the winningest head coach in program history. In 2017, he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
