LYONS, N.Y. – Baylei Reed, a standout athlete from Lyons, is making her town proud through her accomplishments in both sports and academics.
Reed grew up on a family farm in Savannah, where she spent her early years. “Yeah. I grew up on a family farm, in Savannah,” Reed said.
In addition to her farm duties, Reed explored various sports before finding her passion. “And I never found a fit. And then my mom signed me up for T-ball as a last resort. Like you need to do something, you know? So she signed me up for T-ball, and I ended up loving it,” Reed said.
Twelve years later, Reed’s dedication has paid off. “My favorite memory was probably this last varsity season in general,” she said. As a catcher, she led the Lyons Lions to a sectional semifinal berth and was named Wayne County Player of the Year for both softball and tennis.
“I wasn’t expecting it as much for tennis. Only being my second year, you know. It’s a lot to learn. But for softball, it was pretty cool. Because at the beginning of the season, I said that that was my main goal was to be named player of the year for Wayne County. And then I ended up getting it. So that was pretty cool for me,” Reed said.
This fall, Reed will attend Cornell University, joining the prestigious agricultural program. “I can’t even put it into words how much I like it there,” she said.
