A central Illinois woman who once launched a bid for U.S. Senate was charged with solicitation of murder, reported WEEK-TV, the NBC affiliate in Peoria.
Allison Salinas was arrested on Tuesday by the Pekin Police Department following an investigation that began two weeks earlier, police stated in a news release. Prosecutors have filed a motion to detain Salinas ahead of her trial.
Specifics about the solicitation of murder charges haven’t been released.
Salinas ran as a Republican for U.S. Senate against Democratic U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth in the 2022 election. However, her name didn’t appear on the Republican primary ballot.
Salinas owned Busy Beez Bakery in Pekin, which has since closed. The bakery was investigated by the Illinois Department Of Labor after five employees claimed they weren’t paid for their services.
When contacted by WEEK about the allegations in February, Salinas said “I have no problem paying anybody for work they’ve actually done.”
