Residents who live near a gas station in Berwyn were asked to evacuate on Thursday afternoon as crews battled a fire at the business.
Video taken by a bystander and posted on social media captured heavy flames and extensive damage at the BP gas station located at the corner of Ogden and Oak Park avenues. Crews were working to extinguish flames and smoke at the building, which appeared to have been heavily damaged or possibly destroyed, footage revealed.
The Berwyn Police Department, writing in a Facebook post, said “an active fire” was being handled by firefighters, and residents were evacuated as a precaution.
People were asked to avoid the area for the time being.
