TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — Full recreational access to Lake Travis reopened Thursday, according to a social media post from the Travis County government.
Access to the lake closed as part of the county's disaster declaration after severe flooding earlier this month, KXAN previously reported. The lake partially reopened after about a week, but still restricted recreational use near the mouth of Cow Creek.
Travis County Judge Andy Brown updated the declaration to permit recreational use of the entirety of Lake Travis. However, the county recommends boaters and swimmers be cautious.
The lake's levels rose significantly after upriver flood gates were opened. Excess runoff from heavy rains flowed down the Colorado River and into Lake Travis.
