THE Green Bay Packers have unveiled new uniforms inspired by their historic past.
The Packers will wear throwback uniforms inspired by the team’s 1923 season.
The new uniforms feature a blue and gold color scheme on the shirt and pants.
The helmet is painted to look like a leather cap that would be worn by players of that era.
According to Packers team historian Cliff Christl, the 1923 season was chosen for the throwback because it was “as big a year as there’s been in Packer history.”
“If that had not occurred there’s no way the Green Bay Packers would be here today if they had been owned by an individual owner,” Christl said.
“There’s just no way they could have survived all the roadblocks and near-death experiences the team had for years.
“It put some money in the bank for the first time.”
The uniforms were re-created based on black-and-white photographs from articles in the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
In September 1923, and article was published with a picture of the team in said uniforms.
“The Bay eleven resplendent in their new jerseys, dark blue with gold striped arms, making an imposing appearance,” the article said.
While the uniforms are inspired by the past of the Green Bay Packers, many fans have noticed some striking similarities to another throwback uniform.
The Illinois Fighting Illinis unveiled nearly identical throwback uniforms in 2024.
Those uniforms featured a painted helmet to look like a leather cap, and a blue and gold color scheme.
In an even more striking similarity, the uniforms were based on the 1924 season.
They were worn for the 100-year anniversary of Red Grange’s six-touchdown performance against the Michigan Wolverines during the Memorial Stadium Dedication Game.
Illinois said that the design process took two years to complete.

“Every masterpiece has its cheap copy,” a fourth fan said.
