New York State COVID paid sick leave to end July 31

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Starting next month, a positive COVID test won’t guarantee extra sick leave. COVID paid sick leave legislation is coming to an end on July 31.

In response to the outbreak of COVID-19, New York State implemented programs that guaranteed workers’ job protection and financial compensation. That’s if they or their minor dependent child are required to a mandatory quarantine by the state of New York or any other government entity.

Currently, some employers in New York State are required to provide at least 5 or 14 days of job protected, paid COVID-19 sick leave. That requirement dissolves on July 31.

If your employer doesn’t provide required COVID-19 sick leave before July 31, you can file a complaint with the NYS Department of Labor. To file a complaint, click here.

So, starting on August 1, businesses won’t be required to provide COVID-19 paid sick leave.
