Ozzy Osbournes Bandmate Gives First Interview Since Rockers Death

One of rock’s most iconic figures, Ozzy Osbourne, is no longer with us, but his legacy lives on in the hearts of fans and his bandmates, including Tony Iommi.

In his first interview since his longtimeBlack Sabbath bandmate’s death, Iommi shared how deeply affected he was by the news of Ozzy's death, describing it as a “shock.”

“God, am I dreaming all of this?” Iommi, 77, said to ITV News. “I mean, when I heard yesterday, it couldn’t sink in. I thought, ‘It can’t be.’ I only had a text from him the day before. It just seemed unreal, surreal. And it really didn’t sink in.”

He reflected on Ozzy’s final days, remembering the effort the rocker put into his last performance with the band just a few weeks prior at his Back to the Beginning show. Iommi shared that despite Ozzy’s declining health, which was evident during rehearsals, he pushed himself to give fans one last show. “He really wanted to do it, and he was determined to do it. And fair dues, he’d done it,” Iommi said, explaining how the show marked a significant closing chapter for both Ozzy and the band, and that he and the rest of the band thought “he held out to do it.”

Iommi described Ozzy as being “moved and frustrated” during the final performance, where he remained seated in his iconic bat-themed throne. “You could see he was trying to get up,” Iommi remarked, adding that the night was about closing the band’s chapter and honoring their iconic frontman.
