Justin Fields has been through multiple scenarios over the past couple of seasons, getting traded from the Chicago Bears to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he spent last season primarily as a backup. Now, he’s with the New York Jets and was expected to be the starter with a serious shot to revive his NFL career.
Unfortunately, that chance with the Jets may have just hit a major bump in the road. Early Thursday morning, reports surfaced that Fields was carted off the field with a lower-leg injury, and the early signs were not promising. Reports of the injury made their way to ESPN’s Mike Greenberg, who is an avid Jets fan and the host of Get Up.
With the broadcast still rolling, Greenberg addressed the reports as only a true superfan could, sending him into a frustrated tizzy:
“The tone of all the tweets I am seeing from the people who are there makes it sound like this is something bad, and I turn to others to speak on my behalf, because quite candidly, if I were to speak right now, I don’t know how well that would go for anyone,” said Greenberg. “It is the first freaking day of practice, they aren’t even in pads, and Justin Fields is being carted off the field.
“I have been touting all this time that this is going to go so well, the Jets are much better than everybody thinks they’re going to be, and all of a sudden, Justin Fields is being carted off the field at a practice.”

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has since labeled Fields’s injury a toe ailment, so hopefully it turns out to be something minor.
