(KRON) -- Three suspects allegedly tied to a Bay Area identity theft ring were arrested last week following an investigation into a Cupertino home burglary, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday.
On June 20, a family in Cupertino discovered that $18,000 worth of jewelry and two Porsches, a 2019 Cayenne and a 2025 Taycan, had been stolen from their house, authorities said. According to the sheriff’s office, the two stolen cars would later be used in multiple crimes across the South Bay, with one even involved in a police pursuit in Santa Clara.
Detectives from the Regional Auto Theft Task Force working the case identified the burglary suspects through leads developed from security camera videos, SCCSO said. The suspects were connected to additional crimes across the Bay Area.
A deputy found one of the stolen Porsches at the Hayes Mansion Hotel in San Jose, and a search warrant was executed on July 17. Inside the suspects’ hotel room, detectives said they uncovered 500 pieces of stolen mail, 200 checks, 25 stolen credit cards, counterfeit currency, 12 Social Security cards, 24 counterfeit driver’s licenses, two passports, three DMV vehicle registrations, a birth certificate, four shaved vehicle keys, a key fob to one of the stolen Porsches and 24 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
