Thomas Castellanos claims he meant ‘no disrespect’ with Alabama comments

Thomas Castellanos met with reporters on Wednesday morning at ACC Kickoff in Charlotte.

The Florida State quarterback was asked to clarify remarks he made earlier this summer when he said he didn’t think Alabama would be able to stop him because it no longer has Nick Saban at the helm.

On Wednesday, Castellanos stood by his comments but said he meant “no disrespect” toward the Crimson Tide.

“We stand on what I said, but there’s no disrespect toward that team,” Castellanos said. “That’s just the confidence that I have in my teammates and the way we prepare … I just feel confident in the guys and the work that we’ve been putting in.”

Here’s a clip from Castellanos’ full answer:

As for Alabama, his comments were certainly noted by the Tide’s locker room. Linebacker Deontae Lawson said “disrespect will be handled accordingly” when asked about the comments at SEC Media Days last week.

Florida State is coming off of a 2-10 season. While Castellanos wasn’t there for that, he also had a disappointing 2024 campaign at Boston College. He was benched by Bill O’Brien midway through last season. In limited reps, Castellanos did post a career-high in passer efficiency rating (163.4), which is something that could give him confidence going into that game against Alabama.

Confidence will certainly be necessary as Florida State is a big underdog to the Crimson Tide in Week 1. Alabama is an 11.5-point road favorite in that game, per the latest odds from bet365. Here’s a bet365 promo if you’re interested in wagering on that game.

Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on Aug. 30.
