The busy Interstate 294 southbound ramp to Interstate 290 eastbound in suburban Elmhurst was expected to be closed for “several hours” after a truck rolled over Wednesday morning, leaving the driver dead.
About 4:07 a.m., the driver of a commercial truck traveling on the I-294 ramp southbound lost control and rolled over, Illinois State Police said.
The driver and sole occupant of the truck was pronounced dead on the scene, ISP said.
“The ramp is currently closed and is expected to remain closed for several hours,” ISP said.
NBC 5 traffic reporter Kye Martin said the crash occurred in a work zone.
“Drivers should continue southbound to Cermak, exit there and drive east to Mannheim,” Martin said, as a workaround. “Take Mannheim north to hook up with the inbound Eisenhower.”
As of 8 a.m., the ramp remained closed, with delays expected.
