BRIGHTON, N.Y. — A new Planned Parenthood clinic has opened in Brighton despite the federal funding cuts to the nonprofit.
The health center opened on South Clinton Avenue, making it the second location in the Rochester area, the first being on University Avenue. The center became fully operational on Tuesday and is partially funded by a $200,000 New York State grant.
The ribbon-cutting comes after Planned Parenthood won a partial victory in a legal fight with the President Trump administration. A provision in the president’s tax and spending cuts bill ends Medicaid payments for one year to abortion providers that received more than $800,000 from Medicaid in 2023.
On Monday, a federal judge granted a preliminary injunction that, for now, blocks the government from cutting Medicaid payments to Planned Parenthood clinics that either don’t perform abortions or didn’t get enough in Medicaid reimbursements in 2023.
It’s not clear exactly how many clinics across the country will get Medicaid reimbursements and how many might not.
