TICONDEROGA, N.Y. – A candlelight vigil was held to honor the memory of 9-year-old Melina Frattolin, who state police said was killed by her father. The emotional gathering took place at Percy Thompson Bicentennial Park.
An autopsy determined Melina died from asphyxia due to drowning. State police said Luciano Frattolin killed her on Sunday and then fabricated a story about her being kidnapped in the Lake George area. Her body was discovered in a Ticonderoga pond, partially covered by a log.
“It’s just so horrific and so sad. We just wanted to pay tribute,” Bruce said. “Pay our respects to Melina.”
“People tend to try and put themselves in that position. It could be their child, it could be their grandchild,” Denise said. “Just to think that your father is the one that you trust, should trust and love the most important person in your life, could do something so horrific.”
Luciano Frattolin has been charged with murder and concealment of a human corpse. He is being held in the Essex County Jail.
