LAKE GOERGE, N.Y. — According to New York State Police, the autopsy of 9-year-old Melina Frattolin shows she died from asphyxia due to drowning.

On July 19, Melina was reported missing by her father, 45-year-old Luciano Frattolin, who is now being charged with second-degree murder and concealment of a corpse, as state police say some of the father’s story about his daughter’s disappearance didn’t check out.
His arrest was announced by state police on Monday during a press conference. Forrest rangers say they found the body of Melina in the shallow part of a pond in the Town of Ticonderoga on July 20.
Troopers say the girl and her father, from Montreal, were vacationing in the Adirondacks. They arrived on Friday, July 11, and were expected to return on Sunday, July 20.
The day before their return, the girl’s father had reported his daughter missing around 10 p.m., saying she may have been abducted in the Town of Lake George. This prompted an Amber Alert, which was canceled at 4 p.m. on July 20.
State Police say Melina Frattolin lived with her mother, who has been estranged with Luciano Frattolin since 2019. Melina Frattolin was supposed to be returned to her mother after her trip with her father.
The final determination and report of Melina’s autopsy are pending further laboratory testing, according to state police.
