One of Illinois’ “busiest” DMV locations DMV locations in suburban Orland Park will close for good after a 3-2 vote from Orland Township Trustees, Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias office said in a statement.
A statement from Giannoulias’ office late Monday slammed the Orland Township Trustees’ decision, calling it a “huge disservice to residents,” and said it was made without providing proper notice to or consulting with Secretary of State staff or board members.
The statement, posted to Facebook, has drawn more than 200 comments from vocal residents, commenting on and questioning why the decision was made.
Shortly after Giannoulias’ statement, Orland Township Trustee Ken Duffy posted a contentious response, saying the location was “not” one of Illinois’ busiest DMVs and that the board’s “issues with the DMV” were previously communicated to Giannoualias’ office.
“Sorry that your staff did not provide you with that information,” Duffy’s post said.
“We did not fail our constituents as they support this decision,” the post went on to say. “And the taxpayers? We did them a solid. You are not even servicing our taxpayers but those from outside of our township.”
Duffy’s post added that a broker was available to look for a “better location” for the Township’s DMV.
Paul O’Grady, Orland Township Supervisor, also responded to the statement, saying he was saddened the decision was “forced” upon the township “by the majority of the newly elected trustees without first consulting taxpayers.”
“This is a huge loss for the Orland Park community,” O’Grady’s post said.
No further details about why the decision was made was provided.
