Stephen Colbert had just three words for Donald Trumpin response to the president's gloating over the cancellation of The Late Show last week: "Go f--k yourself."
On Friday, July 18, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to taunt the talk show host, writing, in part, “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings.”
Naturally, Colbert took the opportunity to clap back during his next episode, getting right down to business in his opening monologue on Monday, July 21, with a preview of the moment shared on the show's Instagram account.
"Sticks and stones may break our bones but presidential turds can never hurt us," the caption read.

“How dare you, sir?" Colbert began, though there was no real heat behind the words. "Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism?”
A gold frame then covered the edge of the screen, reading "Eloquence Cam" in a fancy script, from behind which Colbert said, "Go f--k yourself," directly into the camera with a distinct New York accent.
The audience made their approval known, cheering and screaming in response before eventually falling in sync to chant his name: “Stephen! Stephen! Stephen!”
The line drew a massive roar of approval from the audience in the Ed Sullivan Theater, followed by cheers of “Stephen! Stephen! Stephen!”
Colbert read more of Trump's rant next, mimicking his voice as he quoted, "I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next," but The Late Show host wasn't having it. “Nope, no, no. Absolutely not, Kimmel; I am the martyr."
"There’s only room for one on this cross," he added. "And the view is fantastic from up here. I can see your house!”
Fans were nothing short of thrilled with Colbert's handling of the situation, with one declaring, "Scorched Earth Stephen is my new favorite persona."
"They done activated the depths of Stephen’s superpowers," another suggested. "This show is about to be so beautifully unhinged and we are here for it.""I mean, what they gonna do? Fire him again? ?," another questioned. "Well done!"
"WE LOVE YOU STEPHEN AND WE WILL GET LOUDER?," someone else swore.
