CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — A 54-year-old man from Shortsville is facing multiple charges after being accused of abandoning his dog.
According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, on July 15, Timothy Gardiner went to the Ontario County Humane Society with a German Shepard that he said went into his yard while he was mowing and wouldn’t leave.
The sheriff’s office says Gardiner signed the necessary paperwork to turn her in as a found dog with an unknown owner. When the dog was checked for an implanted microchip, the sheriff’s office says the dog, Luna, was registered to Gardiner, who was sent an alert notice that she was at the shelter.
That same day just before 6 p.m., the sheriff’s office says Gardiner called 911 asking to pick his dog up, claiming she was dropped off earlier by an unknown person and got an alert she was at the shelter.
After interviewing Gardiner alongside Animal Control Investigators, the sheriff office says Gardiner claimed to have turned his dog in as she was being aggressive towards his grandchildren. They say he tried to get the dog back after his girlfriend came back and found the dog was missing.
Gardiner was charged with the following:
