A 31-year-old Chicago woman was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the Lake Michigan drowning death of a 1-year-old boy.
Surah Amon, 31, of Chicago, was charged with two counts of felony murder, the Chicago Police Department announced Monday morning.
The incident occurred Friday, police said, when officers responded about 9:54 p.m. to the 7000 block of South South Shore Drive for a service call when they located a 31-year-old woman in the water.
Further investigation revealed the woman, later identified as Amon, had drowned a 1-year-old boy.
The boy’s body was recovered by the Chicago Fire Department’s Marine Unit before being taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
According to police, Amon was transported to a nearby hospital and taken into a custody a short time later.
The incident, classified as a homicide, was under investigation by Area One detectives.
