Aaron Phypers has made serious allegations against his estranged wife, Denise Richards, with whom he filed for divorce on July 7.
In a letter sent to friends and family and confirmed by multiple outlets, Phypers accused the actress of Vicodin addiction, having an ongoing affair, and physically attacking him — all claims that come just days after Richards was granted a restraining order against him.
The message, described to Us Weekly by a source close to the couple as “a frantic cry to help a loved one,” was sent via text and email to the couple’s inner circle on Sunday morning.
In the letter, Phypers paints a harrowing picture of what he claims has been Richards’ years-long substance abuse problem and erratic behavior.
“For nearly a decade, she has struggled with an addiction to Vicodin (which she jokingly calls “Vitamin D” or “white chestnuts”), mixed with Adderall and tequila,” Phypers wrote in the letter. “She’s no longer eating real meals, and I’ve witnessed her pass out from substances — putting herself and others in danger, including while driving with our daughter.”
Phypers alleges the situation has spiraled to the point where it’s now affecting their 14-year-old daughter, Eloise, and requires immediate intervention.
“Some of you know this has been an issue for over 20 years,” he wrote, later adding: “This isn’t just a relationship breaking down. It’s a cry for help.”
Richards, 54, has not publicly responded to Phypers’ claims. Reps for Richards did not return Parade’s requests for comment.
Phypers’ letter comes after Richards filed a restraining order against the 52-year-old, sharing photographs of a bruised face and accusing him of repeated domestic abuse.
In court documents obtained by several outlets, Richards alleged that Phypers would “violently choke” her, slapp her in the face and head, slam her into a towel rack, and use threats to control her, including telling her he would threaten to kill her and himself if she reported him to the cops.
In his letter, Phypers categorically denies the abuse allegations.
“I have never, ever physically harmed my wife, and I did not give her a black eye,” he wrote. “I have only ever stepped in to protect her or others — including separating her from physically attacking our daughter — always coming from a place of care and concern.”
Phypers further alleged that Richards has been engaged in an “ongoing” affair, which he claims to have discovered earlier this year.
“She begged me not to leave, saying it was nothing and that she only loved me,” he wrote. “Then, she denied it all – even the explicit messages I found. Despite her promise to stop, more lies and shocking evidence emerged.”
He ended the letter with a plea to Richards’ support network:
“I ask each of you — from a place of love and truth — to pray for Denise,” he wrote. “To pray for healing, for clarity, and for her to get the help she so desperately needs. And to protect our family — especially my elderly parents — from the false narratives being spread.”
Added Phypers: “I remain open to reconciliation, healing, and truth. But I cannot stand by in silence as the people I love are being harmed — publicly and privately — while the truth is buried beneath a story that simply isn’t real.”
For now, Richards’ restraining order remains in place. No public statement has been made by the actress addressing the accusations in the letter.
