"The Princess of Wales is typically known for her polished, classic footwear, so the choice of strappy, nude gladiator-style heels here was a rare, unexpected shift,” she said.
Kate paired the bold shoes with an equally eye-catching ensemble — a printed midi dress by Markus Lupfer in soft green and blue tones.
“The shoes offer a breezy, bohemian edge to her otherwise demure dress,” Kyte explained. “While the soft neutral tone keeps them elegant and event-appropriate, the crisscross straps and exposed ankle bring a modern sensuality that we rarely see in her public style.”
The fashion stylist noted that although the heels were outside Kate’s usual style, she pulled them off effortlessly and avoided any fashion missteps.
“They work well in context for a summer garden setting, but feel a little informal compared to her usual court shoe polish,” Kyte noted. “It’s a look that subtly nods to trend, but without fully embracing fashion risk.”
Kate herself seemed to be a fan of the heels as she wore them again on two separate occasions. The designer sandals made a return at a garden party in Berlin and again in 2023 at the royal wedding of Crown Prince Hussein and Princess Rajwa of Jordan in Amman.
For that occasion, Kate wore a flowing Elie Saab gown that subtly showed off the distinctive heels as she stepped forward.
