A 31-year-old woman is in custody after a 1-year-old boy drowned in Lake Michigan on Chicago’s South Side, according to authorities.
Police said officers responded at around 9:45 p.m. Friday to the 7000 block of South South Shore Drive for a service call when they located a 31-year-old woman in the water.
According to officials, a further investigation revealed the woman had drowned a 1-year-old boy.

The boy’s body was recovered by the Chicago Fire Department’s Marine Unit before being taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
According to police, the woman was taken into custody and transported to University of Chicago Hospital, where her condition was unknown.
The incident is under investigation by Area One detectives, police said. It is unknown if charges are pending against the 31-year-old woman.
