Bills fan’s frustration leads to removal of illegally sold training camp tickets on StubHub

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Never underestimate the power you have to fix a problem when you call us.

A die-hard Bills fan emailed, frustrated that free Bills’ training camp tickets were being sold for hundreds of dollars on StubHub. Chief Investigative Reporter Berkeley Brean contacted the company and the tickets are now gone.

It is illegal to sell free tickets in New York and that’s why StubHub took them down and penalized the people who posted them.StubHub didn’t know the tickets were getting sold until Bills Mafia called Brean and he called the StubHub.

Berkeley Brean, News10NBC: “Have you tried to get Bills’ camp tickets?”

Jason Kincaid, Bills fan: “Yes, I’ve entered the lottery it’s been four years now and every year it’s the same thing – I don’t get tickets.”

So it frustrated Jason Kincaid even more when he saw dozens of free training camp tickets up for sale on a secondary market. He thought of the pressure some people feel to buy them.

Jason Kincaid: “They want to make their kids’ happy so they purchase them.”

Berkeley Brean: “Yeah, they’re breaking the bank open for tickets that are free.”

    Jason Kincaid: “Yeah.”

Selling free tickets is illegal in New York. The governor signed the law in 2022. It “outlaws the sale of free tickets.”

About two hours after Brean contacted StubHub the screen went from showing tickets to a message saying “StubHub has removed all Buffalo Bills Training Camp listings and refunded every purchase under our FanProtect Guarantee. Sellers who violated our user agreement now face hefty penalties, including permanent suspension from the marketplace.”

Kenny Johnson, better known by his nickname “Pinto Ron,” is one of the most famous Bills’ tailgaters. He relies on the secondary market to get most of his regular season tickets. But training camp is different.

Berkeley Brean: “You think people are doing it to pay for their season tickets?”

Kenny Johnson, “Pinto Ron”: “No, they’re not. They’re doing it because they see a quick buck right there. Get their tickets, put them up, see what they can get for them.”

Berkeley Brean: “What do you think ought to happen?”

Kenny Johnson: “I think the Bills or the attorney general or whoever it is in New York State could set an example by randomly selecting a few, even paying for them, and then go after who ever sold them because you can figure out who sold them.”

Brean checked several other secondary ticket sites. The only place he saw Bills’ camp tickets was on StubHub.

    Bills camp starts Wednesday.
