16-year-old charged in deadly Uptown mass shooting, marks third arrest: CMPD

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A 16-year-old marks the third arrest in a mass shooting that killed a nightclub employee and hospitalized five, according to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department.

On Thursday, July 17, Statesville police arrested the teenager who is charged with Murder and Conspiracy to Commit Murder.

    The teen is currently being held at the Alexander County Detention Facility awaiting extradition to Charlotte.

    Two adult suspects have also been arrested; however, neither is charged with murder. Shawn Cannon, 24, is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen firearm, accessory after the fact to murder and felony flee to elude.

    Damien Evans, 25, is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and two counts of possession of a stolen firearm. The pair appeared in court on Tuesday.

    The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday, July 13, in the 300 block of North College Street. Arleigh Alexzander Bryant, 37, died before he could be taken to a hospital. A spokesperson with Encore Nightclub confirmed he was an employee.

    Five others were hurt, with three people being taken by EMS to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and two others showing up at the hospital.
