A 15-year-old died in an apparent drowning at a scouting camp in Michigan’s northern Muskegon County on Wednesday, Scouting America said in a statement.
The teen, whose name has not been released, was a counselor in training at Owasippe Scout Reservation Camp Blackhawk, according to Scouting America.
Scouting America Council President Dr. Marlon Mitchell and Scout Executive Jeff Isaac informed the Pathway to Adventure community of the “tragic incident” in a letter Thursday, adding that the organization is supporting the family, campers and camp staff by providing grief counseling and other appropriate measures.
No other campers or staff were involved or in danger at any time, according to the letter.
Owasippe’s Camp Blackhawk is situated on the shores of Big Blue Lake in Twin Lake, Michigan.
