A northwest suburban police department has issued an alert to residents, warning of ruse burglaries in nearby communities.
The Elk Grove Village Police Department, in a Facebook post, said a “ruse burglary crew” has been operating in the northwest suburbs, including the Schaumburg and Arlington Heights areas. No incidents have been reported in Elk Grove Village.
A ruse burglary occurs when one suspect uses deception to distract a victim while the other enters the home and searches for items such as valuables, jewelry and cash, police stated.
Such crimes often target the elderly.
