We're past the halfway point of Season 4 of Resident Alien, and we're closing in on the final episodes. This week's episode brings in Stephen Root as its guest star. In "Soul Providers," last week's episode of Resident Alien, Harry was brought in front of the Galactic Housing Council to answer for his crimes. We learned that the Mantid was not dead and buried as we thought but was on the loose again. Without his powers, how will Harry kill the Mantid once and for all? Scenes at the Council were quite amusing ("Three jolts!") including the Council's misconception of where human male genitalia is located on the body.
D'arcy (Alice Wetterlund) tried to recount the events of the previous night where she lost Asta's missing deposit after she went on a bender. When Asta (Sara Tomko) takes her word at face value, D'arcy goes to a dark place and thinks of ending it all. Kate (Meredith Garettson) and Ben (Levi Fiehler) had a revelation that Harry might be an alien, but when they confronted Max (Judah Prehn) about his alien drawings from Season 1, Max claimed Harry was not an alien (at least not now, anyway).
There are many viewers who are not fans of D'arcy, but this episode hopefully changed their minds. Lost and lonely, D'arcy's disappointment in herself was all too evident in this episode. So much so, she sought out Harry for help and advice. She ultimately seeks support at an AA meeting and (fingers crossed) will find her way again through sobriety. The scene between her and Harry was heartfelt and so filled with emotion, it was hard not to physically feel the pain and anguish she felt.
Later, Harry makes a deal with the Council and the Greys that they can have him and his newfound soul if he doesn't kill the Mantid, but they must leave Baby Hawthorne alone now and forever. They accept the deal, but the Council puts Harry's energy in the hands of an executor: Harry's father.
The other gut wrenching scene was with Kate, when her baby was finally returned to her. Her cry of relief that there in her foyer was her baby girl brought tears to this viewer's eyes (and, admit it, to yours also). I'm guessing she believes in the Fairy Tree now and will be leaving a lifetime supply of mints for them!

In "Daddy Issues," Harry must face his father (Stephen Root), who is now the executor of his alien essence. What hoops will Harry have to jump through to get his alien powers back? D'arcy is trying to make a go of it with her sobriety, but it's a lot harder than she realized. Sheriff Mike (Corey Reynolds) and Deputy Liv (Elizabeth Bowen) debate on who the shape-shifting Mantid could be while Kate and Ben hatch up an explanation as to why they suddenly have a newborn in their care.
