Razer Kraken V4 X Wired Gaming Headset Pokémon Edition REVIEW

This limited-edition Kraken headset pairs Razer’s trusted performance with a playful Pokémon design, offering strong audio quality, comfort, and customization for under $100.

The Razer Kraken has been a staple in Razer’s headset lineup since it first came out in August 2012. Since then, Razer has continually updated the headset with new improvements each generation. Released in July 2024 is the V4 X version. This is a wired version of the headset Razer makes both wired and wireless versions of this model. The headset is “For Gamers. By Gamers.” It was built around gaming as its primary use, and that’s where the headset really shines. It features customizable RGB lighting, an adjustable boom mic with a mute option, and a volume control built right into the headset. All of the RGB lighting is fully customizable through Razer’s Chroma app.

This headset features the Kanto starters Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, and Pikachu all over the design. It’s part of Razer’s limited-edition collab set with Pokémon, which includes the BlackWidow V4 keyboard, Cobra mouse, Kraken V4 X headset, and the Gigantus V4 mouse pad. The entire set showcases classic Kanto starter artwork.

I’ve always had a general love for Razer products they’ve been a staple in the gaming industry and are a very well-known name. I’m an even bigger Pokémon fan, so I was excited to take a look at their newest collaboration.

    Features

The Razer Kraken V4 X features patented TriForce 40 mm drivers that deliver clear highs, mids, and lows with powerful bass and minimal distortion. It supports virtual 7.1 surround sound for immersive positional audio on Windows 10 (64-bit) and newer systems via Razer Synapse. The headset includes a retractable Razer HyperClear cardioid microphone that captures your voice clearly while minimizing background noise. The mic uses a unidirectional pickup pattern for focused voice transmission, ideal for team chat and streaming. Its ear cushions are made of hybrid fabric and leatherette memory foam for comfort and passive noise isolation during long gaming sessions. The adjustable padded headband and lightweight design (approximately 300 grams) provide a secure, comfortable fit. It connects via a USB-C cable and includes a USB-A adapter, ensuring compatibility with PC, Mac, PS5, Nintendo Switch (docked), Steam Deck, and mobile devices. The headset features Razer Chroma RGB lighting on the earcups, customizable with 16.8 million colors through Razer Synapse. On-ear controls include a volume dial and a mic mute button for quick and easy adjustments. It has a frequency response range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz and an impedance of 32 ohms for balanced sound output. The microphone has a frequency response of 100 Hz to 10 kHz, a sensitivity of approximately -42 dBV/Pa, and a signal-to-noise ratio of 60 dB or higher. The inner earcup dimensions measure about 62 × 42 mm, designed to fit most ear shapes comfortably.

    Unboxing and Setup

For this special limited-edition collaboration with Pokémon, Razer went all out on the packaging. The box showcases the design of the headset nicely, complimented by the starter artwork featured throughout the headset.

Inside the box, you’ll find the headset itself in a protective carrying pouch. It was nice to see a carrying pouch included especially at this price point. After unboxing, the cord is bundled with Razer’s signature cable management. I really like that all Razer products include this.

The headset is fully plug-and-play. When I plugged it into my computer, like all other Razer products, it was recognized right away and popped up within Razer’s software. I opted to leave the RGB lighting as it was and jumped right into playing Fortnite.

    Overall Usage

I typically use a wireless headset for my gaming needs, so I was excited to see the latency difference with this wired Razer one. In Fortnite, it’s nice to be able to hear footsteps and directional sounds and this headset does a fantastic job at just that.

Immediately after connecting to voice chat, other players told me they could hear me crystal clear. Clearer than the other headset I had been using before. I was told the difference was night and day.

After playing Fortnite for a while, I switched to my favorite mobile game, Call of Duty: Mobile. The headset was fully plug-and-play with mobile as well. I tested it on both my iPad Pro 12.9 and my REDMAGIC Nova tablet.

While playing, I can’t say for sure that the sound was better than other headsets I’ve tested but that’s not a bad thing. In this category, average is actually really good. I’ll also add that the headset I normally use is 3x the price of this one. So, for this headset to sound just as good at a third of the price? That’s impressive.

I also noticed less head fatigue, as this headset is lighter than most wireless ones. I do wish it had some sort of ambient sound mode to allow surrounding sounds in. That feature helps me avoid accidentally yelling during gaming, since I can hear how loud I’m talking.

I really like the included cable management it makes it easy to store the headset in the carrying bag when I’m not using it. The mic has a little slot where it can be tucked into the headset itself, which is a nice touch.

    Price

The Razer Kraken V4 X Pokémon collaboration headset is currently available on Razer’s website for $99.99. Since this is a limited-edition design, you can still purchase the regular Razer Kraken anytime for $79.99. It’s the same headset, just without the Pokémon artwork.

    Conclusion

The Razer Kraken V4 X Pokémon Edition is a solid, stylish addition to Razer’s long-standing Kraken lineup. It offers impressive audio quality, clear communication, and a lightweight, comfortable build ideal for long gaming sessions. The Pokémon-themed design is a fun and nostalgic touch for fans, and the included carrying pouch and cable management add extra value at this price point.

While it may not outperform premium wireless models, it holds its own remarkably well especially considering it costs a fraction of the price. Whether you’re a hardcore gamer, a Pokémon enthusiast, or both, this headset delivers great performance and personality in one sleek package.
