"Pretty Little Baby" singer Connie Francis was in good spirits on her final days before her death at the age of 87, according to her longtime friend Ron Roberts.
Shortly after Francis' death was confirmed on Thursday, July 17, Roberts gave a glimpse into how she was feeling in her final days.
"We were expecting it, unfortunately … they couldn't locate where the pain was exactly," Roberts told People of her death, adding "that she'd been having" the pain "for some time."
However, he did note that she made the best of the bad experience and "absolutely" remained positive until the end.
"It's been two months of the most extreme high then the most extreme low," he said, noting that she was a "fighter." However, Francis did start to "deteriorate" and was "unconscious" for at least two days before her death. "She slipped away peacefully," Roberts said.
Roberts got to know Francis well as he worked as the president of her Concetta Records label.

Francis got a last-minute boost of fame when her hit song "Pretty Little Baby" went viral on TikTok. Roberts said that Francis would be "smiling" knowing that she "left this world as big a star."
However, the former journalist noted that she was successful well before the resurgence. "There was no bigger-selling female on the planet at that time. In 1960, she had outsold every recording artist … truly amazing," he said of the early days of her career.
Hours before he spoke to People, Roberts broke the news of Francis' passing in a Facebook post. "It is with a heavy heart and extreme sadness that I inform you of the passing of my dear friend Connie Francis last night," he wrote. "I know that Connie would approve that her fans are among the first to learn of this sad news."
Several fans took to the comments section to share their condolences. "Oh, this makes me so sad. I am so sorry for your loss. We are fans, but she was your lifelong friend. My deepest condolences to you," one person commented, while another added, "Sorry to hear Ron. My condolences to you on the loss of a close friend. Wish her family a long life."
Prior to her passing, Francis sparked health concerns when she revealed in a July 2 Facebook post that she was "back in hospital" and was "undergoing tests and checks to determine the cause(s) of the extreme pain I have been experiencing."
Two days later, she said that she was "feeling much better after a good night" of rest.
