For the first time in over twenty-six years, a brand-new soap opera premiered on network television as CBS debuted Beyond the Gates. In honor of this historic event, the cast attended the 116th NAACP Convention to celebrate the show's groundbreaking creation.
Actress Daphnée Duplaix was one of the stars in attendance, the actress took to Instagram to share a video of the speech she was able to give, reflecting on the shows creation, it’s importance, and encouraging those in attendance to watch and share the show with their loved ones.
The actress captioned the post, “What an incredible honor it was to speak on behalf of Beyond The Gates at the 116th NAACP Convention. The love in the room was absolutely infectious - surrounded by so much beauty and black excellence, I felt the power of our collective voices and shared purpose. Beyond The Gates represents more than just a show; it’s about opening doors, breaking barriers, and celebrating the stories that need to be told. Being in that space, among changemakers and visionaries, reminded me why this work matters so deeply. Grateful to be part of this movement and to share our mission with such an inspiring community. Thank you @derricknaacp@leonwrussell@sheiladucks for including me.”

CBS officially describes Beyond the Gates as a soap opera that is “set in a leafy Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, D.C., in one the most affluent African American counties in the United States; a posh gated community with winding tree-lined streets and luxurious mansions to call home. At the center of this community are the Duprees, a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty. But behind these pristine walls and lush, manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered. And those who live outside these gates are watching closely. These are the places where our characters live, love, work and play. Those who have “made it” and those who haven’t are all trying to navigate life … and some with more grace than others.“
Beyond The Gates, developed and produced by CBS Studios / NAACP venture in partnership with P&G Studios, a division of Procter and Gamble, is the ground-breaking first hour long black soap opera to premiere in daytime. The creation is the brainchild of award-winning showrunner Michele Val Jean and Sheila Ducksworth, and the first new soap opera to premiere since NBC debuted Passions back in 1999.
Beyond the Gates airs weekdays on CBS at 2 p.m. ET, and streams weekdays on Paramount+. The series can be streamed from the beginning on Paramount+.
