Redwood City: Two men arrested on suspicion of assault with deadly weapon

REDWOOD CITY — Two men were arrested Tuesday for allegedly attacking a 20-year-old man in a parking lot while armed with sharp objects, police said.

The first suspect, a 47-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, evading a police officer, conspiring to commit a crime, vehicle hit and run, parole violations and resisting arrest, according to a press release from the Redwood City Police Department. The second suspect, a 36-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit a crime, parole violations and resisting arrest.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to reports that four to five people were attacking and possibly stabbing a man in a parking lot on the 1400 block of Ebener Street, authorities said.

When officers arrived, the suspects fled the area in a van, authorities said. Bystanders identified the van as the vehicle involved in the alleged assault.

Police pursued the van eastbound on Woodside Road as the driver refused to pull over, authorities said. The driver of the van turned onto Hudson Street, colliding with a parked vehicle. The driver, the 47-year-old suspect, then ran from the vehicle and was apprehended a “short distance away,” police added.

The front passenger of the van, the 36-year-old suspect, refused to exit and officers brought in a K9 dog, which bit him on the arm, authorities added. He was then taken into custody by officers.

Police have not located a third suspect who they believe left the van prior to officers’ arrivals, they said.
