What Tennis Icon Billie Jean King Keeps In Her Fridge is Shockingly Relatable

With Wimbledon wrapped up and the US Open around the corner, we're in the height of tennis season. Whether you're following the men's or women's matches (or both), the world of professional tennis wouldn't be what it is today without the work and sacrifices of Billie Jean King.

King, also known as BJK, is celebrated for her 39 Grand Slam title wins, her advocacy work for women's tennis and of course, her win against male tennis player Bobby Riggs in the historic "Battle of the Sexes" tennis match in 1973.

At 81 years old, the tennis legend spends her time traveling the world championing women’s sports and chilling at her home in New York City. We can only imagine how crowded her trophy room must be, but thanks to social media, we got a very clear picture of what her fridge looks like. And guess what? It's so relatable.

In an Instagram video, King gave a peek inside her refrigerator and had a very down-to-earth confession. “We do not cook,” King said emphatically about the kitchen routines of her and her wife, Ilana Kloss. “We do not cook,” she repeated, just to make sure everyone got the message.

She said that on a good day, the fridge contains restaurant leftovers, a few condiments and several bottles of Snapple. On a normal day, King admits that the family's fridge is often completely vacant. “Usually if we open this, it would be nothing, except maybe a medication,” she said.

This isn't to say Billie doesn't feed herself, of course. She and her wife just prefer to go out, which isn't an uncommon sentiment among many New Yorkers. “We have stuff from many restaurants here in New York City, plus we have our favorite deli across the street,” King said. “We go and get our drinks, other things. We get our breakfast if we want.”

There is, however, one exception to the couple's no-cooking rule: Kloss makes oatmeal every morning. “That’s the one thing that’s cooked,” King said with a smile. Beyond that, the couple relies on local restaurants for pretty much everything else.

To fill the fridge—or not—King has a favorite go-to: a folder packed with takeout menus. “We have so many to choose from,” she said, before listing her favorite restaurants. (King said Swagat Indian restaurant is a favorite. “We’ve been going there forever.”)

In the comments, fans shared their thoughts. “I laughed so hard when the folder came out! I forgot that was a thing. BJK, we now have the internet & can lose the folder,” one person joked. "You need a personal chef," added another.

But plenty of people cheered her on and noted they could relate. “Thank you! Non-cookers unite!” one commenter said. “This was so honest AND hilarious!! Thank you BJK,” another wrote.

King hilariously slammed it home with one winning caption: “Ilana and I do not enjoy cooking. Reservations > Recipes.” You do you, BJK!
