Link and Zelda casting confirmed for live-action The Legend of Zelda movie

With two years to go until the Legend of Zelda live-action adaptation is scheduled to release, we finally know who will be taking up the mantle of the iconic hero in green.

Following the tremendous success of The Super Mario Bros Movie in 2023, Nintendo confirmed that it was collaborating with Sony Pictures on a live-action Legend of Zelda film.

Set to be directed by Wes Ball, director of The Maze Runner trilogy and 2024's Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, production will be supervised by Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto and former Marvel Studios founder Avi Arad.

But while news about the production side of things has been rather open thus far, we haven't had any news at all on the film's casting – until now.

In a statement put out by Nintendo, is has been confirmed that Link will be played by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, while Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason.

Ainsworth, aged just 16, has appeared in recent TV series such as The Haunting of Bly Manor, as well as films such as Flora & Ulysses and as Pinocchio in Robert Zemeckis's 2022 adaptation of the story.

Bragason has appeared most recently as Amy Knightly in The Jetty and Roxy Jackson in Renegade Nell, as well as Clara Radley in 2024 film The Radleys.

Unlike Ainsworth, Bragason actually already has a gaming credit to her name, appearing in a minor role in the 2021 animated film Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV.

Prior to Bragason's confirmation, it was heavily speculated that the role would go to Hunter Schafer, with plenty of parallels being drawn between her and several iterations of Princess Zelda, most notably in Twilight Princess.

But with the selection of Ainsworth and Bragason, it appears that the film will be adapting one of the less dark Zelda stories, perhaps continuing to aim for a younger audience.

As yet, it hasn't been confirmed how much the film will draw from the lore and story of the games or whether the studio will be aiming for an entirely new tale to tell.
