ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The First Alert Weather team has issued a Yellow Alert on Wednesday for both high heat/humidity and heavy downpours that may lead to flash flooding.
The timing for this will be the afternoon and evening, but before then it will be a sunny and very muggy morning, with temperatures peaking in the low 90s and heat index values near 100.
Near or just after the lunch hour, slow-moving thundery downpours will begin to develop. Due to lake breeze boundaries, storms will continuously pop up, which could lead to flash floods. Two main waves of storms are expected overall, one in the afternoon and one near sunset.
Rainfall totals will be 1-2+” in the heaviest storms. The entire region is at risk of seeing these storms, but due to the Finger Lakes region already having gotten heavy rain this past weekend, the ground there is more saturated and thus may begin flooding earlier if heavy downpours hit. If you receive a flash flood warning, stay away from creeks and streams and do not drive through flooded roads. Move to higher ground if necessary.
Still warm and humid tomorrow with more chances for showers and thunder as a cold front sweeps through in the afternoon/evening, then behind that front on Friday will be cooler and FAR less humid conditions, with plenty of sunshine to go alongside it! Saturday is nice, with the return of humidity and rain chances on Sunday.
