Jake Paul world title ambitions fade as pivotal deal rejected leaving plan in tatters

Jake Paul has taken a step backwards on his path to a world title.

The 28-year-old has always been clear about his intentions of one day becoming a world title holder.

After Paul’s most recent bout resulted in victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, he was lined up for rankings with the WBA and WBC.

The 10-round contest saw Paul outclass Chavez Jr in order to secure his number 14 spot in the WBA’s cruiserweight world rankings.

But, the ranking from the sanctioning body has since been retracted after questions of legitimacy were raised from widespread criticism within the boxing community.

With that, Paul has been pushed one step further away from achieving his dream of a world title.

After beating Chavez Jr, the YouTuber-turned-boxer had set his sights on a bout with WBC cruiserweight champion Badou Jack.

Jack’s comeback bout saw him win his title defence against Noel Mikaelian via majority decision from the judges scorecards.

Although the WBC called for an immediate rematch to be held after Mikaelian’s promoter, Don King, appealed the result.

Paul’s request for a bout with Jack would require Mikaelian to step aside from the scheduled rematch, but it has been revealed that King has denied Paul’s request.

King’s promotion company stated: “Don King Productions is denying Jake Paul’s request for former WBC cruiserweight world champion Noel Mikaelian to step aside from his world title rematch against Badou Jack, the current WBC champion.”

Paul’s planned shot at an unlikely belt is seemingly off the cards for now.

While getting into the ring with Jack next seems unlikely, The Problem Child seems determined to prove that he has what it takes to win a world title.

Paul is known for making huge fights happen, having brought Mike Tyson out of retirement for their contest in 2024.

In their bout, Paul controversially defeated the heavyweight legend Iron Mike via unanimous decision.

He has carved himself into one of the hottest names in boxing since his professional debut in 2020, albeit for controversial reasons.

The 28-year-old has earned a professional record of 12-1 in the five years he has been on the professional scene.

Paul has yet to pencil in his next fight but has been linked with Anthony JoshuaGetty

Paul’s record primarily consists of retired MMA fighters and the only legitimate cruiserweight opponent he has faced is Tommy Fury, who handed him his one defeat in 2023.

Since that defeat, Paul has been vying to launch an assault on the professional boxing ranks and he won’t let this set back stop him.
