Trump officials are going to release half of the 4,000 National Guard troops in L.A

Trump had vowed to deport millions of people in the country illegally and had executed raids at work sites including farms that were largely exempted from enforcement during at the outset . The administration had faced dozens of lawsuits across the country challenging its tactics.

Trump had progressively turned to the military in his immigration crackdown. Moreover, to sending troops to Los Angeles, thousands of active duty troops had been deployed to the border with Mexico and the Pentagon has created military zones in the border area.

Almost six weeks into a controversial military deployment, the Pentagon declared that half of the almost 4,000 National Guard soldiers who have been arranged to the Los Angeles area would be released from duty.

The action is  taken after a prolonged legal battle over whether the Trump administration has the right to deploy the troops and scathing criticism from state and local leaders that the military was not needed to deal with protests over immigration raids that have led to around 3,000 arrests.

President Trump justified the troops as necessary, citing scattered unrest in the first few days of the immigration sweeps. However, the protests calmed relatively quickly and were  primarily kept in check by local police. The National Guard ended up largely protecting federal buildings.

President Donald Trump command 4,000 National Guard and 700 Marines into Los Angeles in June to help enforce federal immigration raids amid widespread protests.

based on Department of Homeland Security figures, cited by NBC Los Angeles, the raids had led to the arrest of 2,792 undocumented immigrants.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell certified the release of 2,000 California National Guardsmen “from the federal protection mission”. He  declared that the move was because “the lawlessness in Los Angeles is subsiding”.

In conclusion, Mayor Karen Bass illustrated the withdrawal as a “retreat”, crediting the success of peaceful protests and legal actions.
