(KRON) -- The Richmond Police Department is urging the community to be alert as it investigates a recent string of sexual battery assaults.
Arson suspect nabbed as SJPD probes 14th homicide of yearRPD said the attacks have targeted people who are on popular jogging or walking paths — exercising by themselves — during daylight and early evening hours. Richmond police said some incidents have occurred at the Point Richmond Tunnel and Keller Beach.
Investigators said the suspect is described as a Black man who is between 5-feet-7 inches tall to 6-feet tall, and between the ages of 40 to 50 years old with an average build.
Richmond police are asking residents to take the following precautions when exercising outside:
"Stay Alert: Avoid distractions such as loud music through headphones. Be aware of your surroundings at all times. Don’t Go Alone: Jog or walk with a partner or in a group whenever possible. Choose Well-Lit Areas: Stick to populated, well-lit paths and avoid isolated or overgrown areas, especially during dusk or dawn. Vary Your Routine: Avoid following the same route or schedule each day. Carry a Whistle or Personal Alarm: These can draw attention quickly in an emergency.
