ALBION, N.Y. — The Orleans County Sheriff’s Office says more arrests might be coming after a Rochester woman was sentenced for a large swatting scheme.
In August of 2023, Orleans County, Monroe County, and Genesee County were all affected by various swatting calls.
A swatting call refers to a false emergency call. Dawnn Marie Walter, 53, was sentenced to one year probation for falsely reporting a shooting at a specific address, which triggered an emergency response.
The sheriff’s office says Walters, along with others, worked together to harass a specific person online by accessing the person’s personal electronic devices and online accounts.
Multiple suspects have been identified across the United States and broad, and the investigation is still ongoing, the sheriff’s office says.
