The Chicago Blackhawks have signed No. 3-overall draft pick Anton Frondell to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Frondell scored 11 goals and dished out 14 assists in 29 regular season games with Djurgardens IF in Sweden last season, earning Rookie of the Year honors and helping his team to earn promotion to the top-flight SHL in the process.
He has also been a star on the international stage for Sweden, racking up 15 goals and 19 assists in 30 games for the Swedish U-18 team in international play, according to Elite Prospects.
Those performances helped Frondell to be the top-ranked European skater heading into the 2025 draft, according to NHL Central Scouting.
He ultimately was the second forward taken in the draft, with the San Jose Sharks selecting Saginaw Spirit center Michael Misa with the second pick.
While Frondell’s NHL contract would pay him $975,000 per season, it’s unclear whether he will be with the Blackhawks to start the season. Reports out of Sweden have indicated that Frondell could be loaned back to Djurgardens IF for the 2025-26 season, which would mean his NHL contract wouldn’t kick in until his arrival in North America.
No official decision has been reached, and the Blackhawks could still see him on the ice for training camp when it opens in September.
