From the moment he went electric at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965, Bob Dylan has been surprising fans with his unexpected innovations, covers and collaborations — but they're still talking about one particularly unlikely moment in the legendary musician's career (and hoping to see more).
In a recent interview with Vulture, Dharma & Greg star Jenna Elfman opened up about Dylan's 1999 cameo on the hit sitcom (in an episode cleverly titled "Play Lady Play" which featured Elfman playing drums in a jam session with the Grammy winner).
As Elfman explained, while Dylan's contract stipulated that all the unused footage from the episode stay in the vaults of 20th Century Fox Studios, he decided to give Elfman the tapes (featuring two hours of unseen footage) for her birthday, which she still has on VHS.

In the comment section on an Instagram post about the interview with Elfman, fans couldn't help but beg the actress to make the footage public.
"That'd be a helluva a Bootleg Series release," one person pointed out, with someone else writing, "Please release them!?"
"Ahhhhhhhh! It's on VHS? Save the Dharma and Bob tapes!" a third commenter agreed, while yet another fan noted that "it would be so cool to see how those scenes were created."
During the same interview, Elfman reflected on the experience of having Dylan on the Dharma & Greg set, admitting that she felt "very shy."
"They set up the entire stage before Bob arrived to ensure we were economical time-wise," she added.
"I wanted to be respectful. I just didn’t know what to expect. I think I assumed the worst so I wouldn’t be let down or surprised if I met someone who was shut down," Elfman continued.
"So he came over and said, 'Hi, I’m Bob.' And I said, 'Well, I know, and I’m very glad you’re here. Thank you so much for doing this.' He proceeded to be complimentary. He asked me some questions about myself and was curious about how I got good at comedy. He was very interested and sparkly-eyed, like a curious young boy. People who’ve been through a lot of trauma tend to lose that outlook, and he hadn’t lost it. That startled me. I thought it was beautiful."
