South Korean engineering firm Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction Company has announced that it has been awarded a $708 million contract to build a seawater desalination plant at Yanbu in Saudi Arabia. The contract has been awarded by a consortium of French energy company Engie and Saudi companies Mowah and Nesma. According to a statement from the company, the Yanbu-4 facility will be located 260 kms north of Jeddah, in the region of Alrayyis. On completion, it will boast a capacity of 450,000 tonne fresh water per day, Doosan stated. It added that the Yanbu-4 facility is expected to be completed by 2023.
