Oftentimes, the first HoH is looking for just anyone to nominate. Zae drew a considerable amount of controversy on Day 1 when he was suspected of being the secret accomplice to the "Mastermind." Meanwhile, Ashley gained a poor first impression when she took an apparently-extended shower in Vince's HoH room, which some felt was rude. Amy was not one of them, however, and her vocal disagreement with targeting Ashley because of that pinger her on Vince's radar. She decided to nominate the two together to avoid making another person mad, while also putting up Zae alongside them.

From the episodes, it seemed like Ashley was the number one target of the three nominees. However, she was able to guarantee her safety by winning the first Power of Veto of the summer.

Yes! Week 1 of Big Brother 27 introduced loads of twists to the new houseguests – and fans. For restoring the power of the HoH, Jimmy was given the power to pick four players to compete in the first Head of Household competition of the season. He chose himself, Adrian, Ashley and Vince. After Rachel entered the house, it was revealed she would automatically become a Have-Not. However, being a Have-Not would earn her – and three houseguests of her choosing – safety for the week. She picked Will, Zach and Ava. Finally, Zach won $10,000 for rescuing Julie in the premiere. However, he also learned in private he could use that money to "buy his way off the block" in the next several weeks, paying the HoH to remove him.
