Former England captain Michael Vaughan criticized Team India skipper Shubman Gill for his performance in the third Test at Lord’s Cricket Ground. The cricketer-turned-commentator said that Gill, who had been in fine form in the first two Tests, seemed nervous across both innings of the match.
England were dismissed for 192 in their second innings on Sunday, July 13. In response, India ended Day 4 at 58 for 4. Shubman Gill managed just six runs before being trapped lbw by Brydon Carse. Nightwatchman Akash Deep came in but was bowled by England skipper Ben Stokes in the final over.
Michael Vaughan said that the pressure impacted Shubman Gill's performance. Speaking on Cricbuzz, the former England captain pointed out that Gill missed four out of nine deliveries due to the intense pressure surrounding the match.
"Brydon Carse bowled a fantastic spell. That wasn't the Shubman Gill that batted at Headingley and Edgbaston," Vaughan said on Cricbuzz.
"I think there must be two of them, because for the first time in the series, he played and missed at four deliveries out of nine deliveries. He looked not the calm Gill that I have seen throughout the Test match series so far, and that is just the pressure of this Test match," he added.

Shubman Gill entered the third Test after scoring two centuries and a double hundred in the previous matches. However, the right-handed batter failed to deliver with the bat, managing just 22 runs across the two innings.

"You've gotten out to an absolute jaffa to a bowler and you have thought about it a lot, and you have said, 'Okay, I'm going to take him on, if his gives it short, I am going to pull it, and play that statement shot'," Dinesh Karthik explained.
"I think Jaiswal came in with that mindset, because a calm Yashasvi or the Yashasvi that played in Edgbaston or Leeds would have said he would have just gone bang cut, because it was a cut ball, at best. I think his ego was probably hurt a little with the way he got out (in the first innings)," he added.
India began their second innings on a disappointing note. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for a duck in the second over. He attempted an aggressive pull shot to a short and wide delivery but mistimed it, giving a simple catch to Jamie Smith.
