The loser of a Wimbledon match doesn’t have to stay around for an interview, unless it’s the final, as Amanda Anisimova brutally found out.
The American became the first woman of the open era to lose a Wimbledon final without taking a single game as new champion Iga Swiatek demolished her 6-0, 6-0.
Anisimova began letting out frustrated scrams in the final set and then before the final deciding game it was clear it was all becoming a bit too much.
The world No.12 began crying on her seat before Swiatek finished the job, and sadly for her opponent the worst was yet to come.
Anisimova left the court after congratulating her victor, but had to return to complete her duties with an exit interview.
Host Annabel Croft tried to handle the 23-year-old lightly, but just a sentence in, everyone was feeling her pain.
“I know this has been a difficult day for you and a difficult match, you were up against such a difficult opponent in Iga today…” Croft said before Anisimova broke down and covered her face.
“We’ll just give you a moment,” the presenter said as the cheers at Centre Court allowed Anisimova to recover.
“Thank you Iga, you’re such an incredible player and it’s obviously showed today,” she continued.
“You’ve been such an inspiration to me, an incredible athlete and you’ve had an incredible two weeks here, winning your first Wimbledon championship is so special for you, so congratulations for you and your team.
“And thank you to everyone who has supported me since my first round match, you guys have carried me through.
“I’ve had a great fortnight, even though I ran out of gas today. I wish I could have put on a better performance for all of you, but you guys have still been there and lifted me up, so thank you so much.”

She then offered an apology, saying: “Guys I’m so sorry.
“My mum is the most selfless person I know and she’s done everything to get me to this point in my life…”
The New Jersey native had to stop again while it was clear her mother was in bits too.
However, she did manage to get one final joke in for the crowd who’d been trying to encourage her all afternoon.
“So thank you for being here and breaking the superstition of flying in,” she said. “It’s definitely not the reason I lost today.”
