Six people were arrested after a police chase stemming from an incident in which a courier was robbed of $70,000 in west suburban Cicero, a town spokesperson said Friday evening.
At around 3 p.m., multiple armed suspects approached a courier at a business in the 5100 block of West Roosevelt Road near Laramie Avenue and took approximately $70,000 in cash, officials said.
Cicero police located and chased two of the suspects’ vehicles to the area of West West End Avenue and North Kostner Avenue in Chicago’s Garfield Park neighborhood. Two suspects were taken into custody at the scene, authorities said. Two others, who were in a white Honda, were located at an apartment building nearby, where they were taken into custody.
A black Chrysler, which was captured by cameras at the scene, was pursued by police westbound onto Interstate 290, Interstate 294 and Interstate 94 in northwest Indiana. Two suspects ran from the vehicle in Hammond and jumped into the Little Calumet River, officials said.
Both surrendered while in the water without incident.
Police recovered several bundles of cash from the vehicles and on the suspects, authorities said.
The investigation was ongoing as of Friday night.
