Martin Guptill was responsible for that infamous run-out of MS Dhoni during the semifinal clash between India and New Zealand at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester. The Black Caps have won that match by just 18 runs, shattering India’s hope of World Cup glory back in 2019.

But Guptill ended his sluggish innings and India’s hopes. Meanwhile, on his official Instagram handle, Martin Guptill reshared a story originally posted by the ICC, which featured the clip of MS Dhoni’s run-out in the 2019 World Cup semifinal in Manchester.
But the caption by the page @bowwow_sports, which jokingly asked, “@martyguptill31 Are you a sniper?” Referring to Guptill’s direct hit from the deep that ended India’s World Cup dreams triggered the emotions on social media, as fans still haven't healed from that 2019 semi-final heartbreak.

Notably, chasing 240 under pressure, India had slumped into deep trouble. But then came Ravindra Jadeja, who joined hands with MS Dhoni to stage a heroic comeback. Their stunning 116-run stand for the seventh wicket brought India back into the match.

But Martin Guptill sprinted in, picked up the ball, and fired a bullet throw that crashed into the stumps. The third umpire took a few seconds to confirm what Indian fans feared, as Dhoni was inches short and was given run out.
