Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will be looking to bounce back in 2025.
Back in February, at Super Bowl LIX, the back-to-back champions came up short in their quest for a historic three-peat.
But despite losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans, there’s little doubt that the Chiefs have established themselves as the NFL’s newest dynasty, and much of their success has been down to their signal caller.
Mahomes, at the age of 29, is already in the GOAT quarterback debate.
He boasts three Super Bowl wins and two MVP awards to his name, and has been the NFL passing touchdowns leader in two different seasons.
Through eight seasons, he has thrown 245 TDs and led the Chiefs to a 89-23 record in 112 starts.
The suggestion is, that if Mahomes plays as long as Tom Brady did, he will be able to surpass him as the greatest quarterback of all-time.
But the question is, how long with No. 15 play?
Given all the success he’s had since landing in the league in 2017, discussion around Mahomes’ longevity has surfaced.
Season after season of gruelling NFL action takes its toll on every athlete, and questions about how long the Kansas City QB intends to play have previously been asked.
Ahead of Super Bowl LIX, Mahomes moved to reassure fans that he will be around for the foreseeable future.
“I want to play as long as they let me play,” he told reporters before the big game.
Mahomes has insisted he could play for another decade in the NFLGetty The Chiefs will be hoping to bounce back in 2025 after Super Bowl heartbreakGetty“As long as I can play and still have success — I don’t want to hurt the football team — and then I want to make sure I’m not hurting my family.
“I want to still be around when my kids are getting older, just like my dad did with me. I always remember those moments.
“If I can still be around my family, and still be playing football at a high level, I’ll continue to play because I love this game so much.”
Mahomes also hinted at the idea of playing for another decade.
“I want to get to 39 at least. Especially if I’m still playing (at a high level), then I’m going to be on the field,” he said.
“Who knows how long I’ll play, we’ll see when we get there. But I’m going to try and keep my body in shape and prepare myself so I that I can play football for as long as I can.”
Mahomes is already a three-time Super Bowl champion who is in the GOAT debateGettyWhile Mahomes spoke about keeping himself in great shape ahead of Super Bowl LIX, in more recent months, he has faced some bizarre criticism for sporting a ‘dad bod’.
Kansas City radio host Kevin Kietzman this week launched a staggering attack on the star’s offseason regimen, branding him an ’embarrassment’.
“He’s fat, he’s an embarrassment,” Kietzman said via his podcast.
“Stop the fast food, do a sit up, do something. I don’t understand it.
“You can’t just run through your NFL career eating Taco Bell all the time and Door Dashing fried chicken. You’ve got a $500million contract, it’s your job. He’s done nothing but eat and drink this offseason.”
Chiefs fans were quick to jump to their quarterback’s defense, calling out the host for his outrageous comments, while Mahomes’ trainer also fired back at Kietzman on social media.
The Kansas City star, of course, has faced criticism of his physique before, but he has always been able to silence his doubters on the field.
Mahomes will hope to do the same in 2025 — and perhaps for a decade beyond — when he returns for the new season.

The 35-year-old tight end was said to be weighing up calling time on his career earlier in the offseason, before ultimately deciding to return for what could be a ‘Last Dance’.
Mahomes has suggested his weapon is in a great mindset ahead of 2025, and the pair will surely be hunting down what could be one final Super Bowl win together.
