Scrubs reboot confirmed as three classic series favourites set to return

A potential revival of Scrubs, the hit medical comedy which ran for 10 seasons between 2001 and 2010, has been talked about for some time, but now, finally, it has been confirmed.

The new series will air on ABC in the US, and it will see three of the original show's central cast members returning - Zach Braff will be back as JD, Donald Faison will return as Turk and Sarah Chalke will be back as Elliot.

Variety has reported that more original cast members are also expected to return. Stars of the original included Neil Flynn, Ken Jenkins, John C McGinley and Judy Reyes.

Original series creator Bill Lawrence, who has since gone on to create Ted Lasso and Shrinking, will act as an executive producer, while Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra will be the showrunners this time around.

Lawrence said in a statement: "Scrubs means so very much to me. So excited for the chance to get the band back together."

The official synopsis for the revival says: "JD (Braff) & Turk (Faison) scrub in together for the first time in a long time - medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time.

"Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way."

Last year, Braff said that the only hurdle to getting the show made was the fact that "Scrubs is a Disney show", while "Bill [Lawrence, series creator] has a Warner Bros deal".

"Once those two companies figure that out, I think the people will get what they want. I think it's gonna happen," he said.

Meanwhile, for his part, Lawrence told LadBible around the same time: "I’m really candid about it. We’re definitely going to do it, just because we’ve all been enjoying hanging out.

"I don’t want to do it as a movie, but I’m definitely open to doing a couple more years of that show. It would not only be fun to see where the characters I used to love are now, but also to see what a young doctor nowadays looks like, as far as the kids coming in behind them, you know.

"I think we’ll figure it out in the next six months or so what we want to do."

Scrubs is available to stream on Disney+. Sign up to Disney+ from £4.99 a month.
