Indian-origin spinner Kishor Kumar Sadhak has made history in England by taking two hat-tricks during a Two Counties Championship Division Six match. Kishor Kumar, who was playing for Ipswich and Colchester Cricket Club, achieved the exceptional feat in consecutive overs during the recent match.
Before Kishor Kumar, only two bowlers had managed double hat-tricks in a single match. The most recent was Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, who achieved it in 2017 during a Sheffield Shield game for New South Wales.
Jimmy Matthews also claimed two hat-tricks in a Test against South Africa at Old Trafford in 1912. However, in both those cases, the hat-tricks were spread across two separate innings, unlike Sadhak’s remarkable performance, which came within the same spell.
Kishor Kumar Sadhak picked up six wickets for just 21 runs, including two hat-tricks in consecutive overs, during the match against Kesgrave. It’s worth mentioning that five of his six wickets were bowled, while the delivery that completed his second hat-trick resulted in a catch.
India's Sadhak also ran out Jaskaran Singh during the innings. Kesgrave were dismissed for a modest total of 138 in just 30 overs, with five batters falling for ducks.
Apart from his bowling heroics, Sadhak also made an impact with the bat. The Ipswich cricketer scored an unbeaten 14, including two boundaries and a six. His side chased down the target in only 21 overs, sealing a seven-wicket victory.
I Was Flying in the Sky, It Was Amazing - Kishor Kumar Sadhak
Kishor Kumar Sadhak said that he felt like he was "flying in the sky" after claiming his sixth wicket. Speaking to BBC Essex, the 37-year-old added that he received numerous phone calls after the match and celebrated with teammates at a restaurant, enjoying drinks and food for over two hours.
“When I saw that the person was bowled out, I was flying in the sky. It was amazing," the 37-year-old told BBC Essex.
“After the match, I got plenty of phone calls. We went to a restaurant, and we enjoyed drinks and food. We spent almost two and a half hours there. It was a very lovely moment," the Indian origin bowler added.
I Wouldn't Say I'm the First Person on the Teamsheet - Kishor Kumar Sadhak
Sadhak stated that the achievement was special, but he doesn’t consider himself an automatic pick for the playing XI. The Indian origin bowler said that there are many talented players in the team and he wouldn’t claim to be the first name on the teamsheet.
"There are lots of other players who play really well. So, I wouldn't say I'm the first person on the teamsheet but I will be in a priority position!" he concluded.
